Want to win some greek yogurt???

Yep, it’s time friends…

As you may remember, Chobani sent me some of their nonfat greek yogurt to sample last week. It was a pretty joyous day. 🙂

No nasty fake sweeteners here! Here’s my reviews, in order of favorites:

#1: Plain greek yogurt. I just love the endless topping options! Granola, fresh fruit, honey… whatever! Chobani’s plain 0% greek yogurt is great, nice and thick and creamy.

#2: Pomegranate (wasn’t in the package, but I love it) & Pineapple. Both are freaking amazing. Seriously. I’d never tried the pineapple until now!

#3: Blueberry, Peach, & Strawberry… I especially enjoyed the blueberry, as it’s always been one of my favorite yogurt flavors!

#4: Vanilla – Also tasty, I just missed the pieces of fruit 🙂

So, want to win some for yourself? Here’s the deal:

To enter, check out Chobani’s website, pick out a flavor you’d most like to try (or one which you already know is a favorite), and leave a comment below about it!

I’ll be randomly picking a winner on Monday morning. The winner will receive a box of Chobani of their very own!

Feel free to tweet or write about the giveaway on your own blog 🙂

(And I’m sorry to my international friends, but this contest is only open to U.S. residents.)

007Good luck!!

Sidewalk: 1. Anne: 0.

Okay so this is going to be a totally random post. Get ready 😉

1) I went out for a run today at 10 a.m. Yes, 10 a.m. One of my favorite things about working from home and being in school is being able to run in the late morning. The sun is shining, it’s warmer, and it’s just generally awesome.

So today I went out for a run in my hilly neighborhood. I went without my headphones or anything and it was great to just listen to the sounds of nature (and trucks… whatever) and I was thinking about how lovely it was outside, brilliant sunshine, cold but crisp, the kind of day I dreamed about while I was living in Prague last winter (it’s really gray there in the winter). When all of a sudden… the sidewalk came up to attack me. Vicious sidewalk. What did I do to you? And then…

I fall flat on my face. Yep, the whole, hands out in front, skidding on knees type of fall you used to have all the time when you were little. You know what my thoughts were? First – “Thank goodness I’m wearing my Road ID!” Then – “Crap, this better not have messed up my favorite Lululemon running pants!!” And then, finally “Ouch.”It was actually pretty funny. I landed (skidded) in a huge pile of leaves, and was totally covered with them after. LEAF MONSTER!!

Here’s the damage:

Damn you, sidewalk. You have won this round. But I’ll be back!!

You can’t tell in the picture, but the right knee is mega puffy. Sexy. I also picked some gravel out of my hands. I think the 12 year old in me is proud 😉

But you know I didn’t let it ruin my run 😉 I got up, brushed myself off, and once I decided my legs felt fine besides being scraped up I continued on my way!

Oh, and since you were wondering, my Lululemon pants are fine. 😉

2) My prize for winning Caitlin’s BSI pancake mix contest with my Special Ingredient Falafel arrived yesterday!!

She sent a fun package that included some milled flaxseed (yay I’m almost out of mine!), OhSheGlows Glo-nola, and some Vega drink mix! Thanks, Caitlin!

3) I’ll be conducting my Chobani yogurt giveaway TOMORROW! I’ll also provide reviews for the rest of the yogurt flavors I tried. Get pumped!

I’m off to relax – it’s chilly and cloudy here now in DC, and I have already put on sweatpants and have plans to make my Veggie-tastic Minestrone Soup again for dinner!

What’s your best falling down/wipeout story?? I was always terrified of falling in the cafeteria at college, but thankfully I never did.

Pumpkin Cranberry Muffin Tops (that won’t give you a muffin top!)

Annnnnd I’m back! Here’s the last fabulous appetizer that I served on Thursday night at my party 🙂 Whole wheat tastiness!

Pumpkin Cranberry Muffin Tops (that won’t give you a muffin top!)

Ingredients (makes 2 dozen):

  • 2 C whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 C canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 C unsweetened applesauce

Preheat oven to 350. In two separate bowls, mix dry, then wet…

…and then combine, adding wet to dry.

Spoon the batter onto a non-stick or sprayed cookie sheet (this makes 2 sheets worth – about 24 muffin tops).

Bake for about 15 minutes – fork check to see if they are done.

Mmmm this might be my new favorite pumpkin muffin recipe! They came out sooo delicious, very soft and moist (this is one of my most hated words… along with chunks and flesh. yick!!! what words gross you out?)

I think I’m going to make more of these to have as snacks 😉

Sigh, time to get back to studying – big Organic Chem test today! Doesn’t this look like fun!?

Kath, I know you feel my pain! 🙂

Have a good one everyone! Stay tuned for my Chobani yogurt giveaway later this week, and of course more fun recipes!

Little Bo Peep lost her sheep, but found beer!

Check out this awesome costume from the depths of my neighbor’s closet!

Hehe. Yep, Little Bo Peep!! My neighbors have been going to costume parties since like the 60s and have a HUGE closet full of costumes, most of them at least partially home-made! Apparently this one goes back to the 70s, and the original pink dress (before she cut it in the front and sewed the laces in… and obviously without the undershirt and apron!) was what my neighbor wore to her debutante ball!! So cool 🙂 Fit perfectly, too.

I had a blast at the cul-de-sac Halloween party – all the neighbors helped out and created a huge haunted house in one of the neighbor’s garages!

It was really awesome! There was a vampire theme and it even included a poster of Edward and Bella, he he he. 😉

Another neighbor’s garage was filled with all sorts of food, including almost 300 hot dogs!! I love hot dogs 🙂 While I don’t eat much meat, I’m not sure I could ever go fully vegetarian because of a) hot dogs, and b) BBQ. 😉 So yummy!!

I hung out at the house with the graveyard and the kegs (obviously) for most of the night 😉 All the parents bringing their kids around were like OMG… beer, yes please!! Haha.

We saw some seriously adorable costumes – I’d say a couple hundred people came to the block party!

Afterwards, I changed into another costume from my neighbor’s closet – a flapper dress and cute feather headband – and went out to another house party! Sadly the photos are on a friend’s camera, though 😦

Alright… back to work! I’ve been very productive today (finally)!

Come back tomorrow to see my final awesome appetizer recipe from Thursday’s party – PUMPKIN MUFFIN TOPS!!! Omg they were good.

Bye 🙂

Cranberry Apple Cinnamon Baked Brie

Happy morning after Halloween! I hope you all enjoyed the extra hour of sleep 🙂

I’m back with my second recipe from Thursday night’s party! This appetizer was a HUGE hit! Everyone was raving about it and asking for the recipe. It was so simple, too!

Cranberry Apple Cinnamon Baked Brie

  • 1 wheel brie
  • ~1/4 C dried cranberries
  • 1 apple (chopped)
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350. Take the wheel of brie and place it on a nonstick tray or a sprayed piece of tin foil.

First, add the dried cranberries on top.

Next, add the chopped apple.

Top with cinnamon and a sprinkle of brown sugar and it’s ready to cook!

063 064

Pop it in the oven for about 10 minutes or so. I LOVE the smell of cinnamon cooking… mmmm.

Once it’s heated and the apple is all cooked and amazing, take it out…

…and serve immediately with crackers. Be sure to taste some now because it will be gone FAST!

Yum 🙂 I’m going to enter this recipe into this week’s Blogger Secret Ingredient Contest over on Lindsey’s blog! This week’s ingredient is dried fruit 🙂

Halloween yesterday was a blast. I have some great pictures from the block party my cul-de-sac had! I had an AWESOME costume thanks to going “shopping” in my neighbors awesome costume closet 🙂 Stay tuned for pictures later! What did you end up dressing as for Halloween?

I’m off to be productive – Chem test on Tuesday and charging forward with my UNC application! Ashley and I were supposed to run this morning, but it’s raining AGAIN 😦 Gym it is!

Bloody Devil (in a cute dress)

Happy Halloween everyone!! Hope you’re having an awesome weekend.

I went to a costume party last night, so I finally had to figure out some sort of Halloween costume!

First, I tried on the black wig and vampire teeth I bought earlier in the week to fuel my Twilight obsession 😉

… It was a total bust. The wig was completely nasty, and the teeth made it so that I couldn’t speak to anyone without severe slobbering and slurring. Sexy, right? So… what to do!?!?

I found an old French maid outfit from college buried in my closet. Tried it on… and promptly decided I probably shouldn’t leave the house dressed like that anymore. 😉

Then I found some devil horns, and remembered my cute red bridesmaid dress from my high school BFF’s wedding last summer… and devil it was!! Look, Jenny, I totally wore the dress again!! 🙂 AND the shoes!

Here’s my evil devil face… I know, I’m totally scary.

I put some lipstick “blood” dripping down one side of my mouth for good measure. 😉

And off I went! I met up with my friends Heidi and Ashley and a couple others to start out the night before going to the party. We took a cute normal picture…

And then one in “character”, hehe. Apparently I think devils eat people (… and wear dresses).

Mmmm blood adult beverages 😉

It was a fun night!! I’m super excited for today too, because the cul-de-sac where I live is having a HUGE block party complete with all sorts of decorations, music, food, drinks, etc. One of the neighbors is making an awesome haunted house in their garage and a graveyard in their front yard! So fun. I love Halloween 🙂

And… I have an AWESOME costume for tonight!! My other neighbor invited me over to peruse her costume closet (they’ve been going to costume parties since the 60s and have some great costumes) and I found the cutest costume ever. Check back later to see what it is 😉

Oh, what’s that? You want to see some actual food? Have no fear… appetizer #2 from Thursday night’s party will be up shortly 🙂

Oh, and one more thing.. I’m in love with pineapple Chobani. It’s official! You must try this. SO GOOD!! Definitely my fave so far!

Pumpkin Bean Dip-licious

Happy Friday!! So first up on the list of awesome appetizers from last night was this random concoction that I dreamed up:

Pumpkin Bean Dip!

This was a huge success! I was thinking of making hummus (which I am still going to do later just for myself), but decided that was too boring for the party and I wanted to make something more interesting. I wasn’t sure how it would come out and was basically just throwing half my fridge into the food processor 😉

Here’s what I ended up with, and it tasted SO GOOD!! Def making this for parties in the future. (and/or at all times to eat with a spoon)

  • 1 C (overflowing) canned pumpkin
  • 1 C black beans (rinsed)
  • 1/2 C cannellini beans (rinsed)
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • juice from 2 lemons
  • 1/2 tsp cumin (this totally made the dip!)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Toss it all into a food processor and go for it! Easy peasy 🙂

I just bought my food processor/blender combo on Overstock.com earlier this summer and it was the best purchase ever. Cheap, too, since it was refurbished! It’s a Cuisinart BFP-703CHFR Food Processor/Blender and I got it for $70 in case you’re curious 🙂

Here’s before…

And after!

Tasted it immediately, obviously. Ended up adding a more black beans (I first started with only 1/2 C)… it’s all about experimenting, friends!

Keep refrigerated until ready to par-tay, then serve with blue corn tortilla chips, pita chips, crackers, veggies, or whatever you like!

Up next on the menu? Another pumpkin-related goodie, of course! And one non-pumpkin treat (gasp!!). Stay tuned 🙂

Funny story from last night: so there were about 15 of us, and we destroyed all the appetizers as well as 6+ bottles of wine. So at one point I had like 10 girls in my room all trying on a zillion jeans, and my friend Sarah was like “Oooo I love these ones!” I look over and I’m like… “Wait… those are MY jeans that I was wearing tonight!!!” Lol! Mayhem 🙂 Everyone is already asking me to have another one of these parties… I’m thinking late January/early February 🙂 So fun!

Off to run a bunch of errands and then gear up for a Halloween party tonight! Have a good one 🙂
